Now that the applications for the 2013 TalentEgg National Campus Recruitment Excellence Awards are closed, the judging period will begin shortly.

An elite panel made up of 200 top students from schools across Canada will evaluate and provide feedback on employers’ campus recruitment initiatives, ultimately choosing the Top 3 finalists and winners in each category.

It’s not just a panel of nameless, faceless students, however. These students are hard-working, super connected Engaged Leaders and High Potentials. They are the leaders of student groups and participate in sports, volunteer work and meaningful work opportunities. They are the students you’re targeting on campus.

Without any further ado, let’s meet a few of the judges!

Tamara says she’s all about innovation, seeking opportunity, collecting life experiences, and living life as a young leader motivated to make an impact on our world.

Currently, she is Local Committee President of AIESEC SFU, which she has held progressively more senior roles with since 2010, as well as an Ambassador and International Project Manager at the Beedie School of Business. She also has quite a bit of non-profit experience, raising money for organizations such as KidStart Vancouver, the BC Children’s Hospital and Canuck Place Children’s Hospice.

What are your career goals?

My passion lies in Marketing, Human Resources and Corporate Social Responsibility. After studying all three areas in my undergraduate career, and gaining experience in each, my goal is to obtain a career that incorporates these areas of concentration. Additionally, I am constantly striving to build my experience in order to eventually land a job internationally. 

Why are you egg-cited to be a TalentEgg Awards judge?

Having been in AIESEC over the last two years, I have gotten to know TalentEgg quite well, as it is an official AIESEC Canada Media Partner. I recognize how influential TalentEgg is for students, especially with its ability to connect us to companies. I am honoured to have been selected as a judge, and look forward to bringing my student perspective to Canada’s top employers.

What are you hoping to gain from being on the panel?

With HR being one of the areas I am particularly interested in, participating on the panel will give me the experience of analyzing recruitment campaigns of various companies. I hope to gain a broader understanding of recruitment and the effective strategies that Canada’s top employers are successfully utilizing.

This experience will also provide me with better knowledge of what employers are looking for in students, giving me the opportunity to become a stronger candidate in finding my future career post-graduation. I also hope to personally gain a better understanding of the employers that are currently out there and the opportunities available in the areas that I am passionate about.

Telly describes himself as a passionate student with diverse interests who is always on the lookout for new opportunities to develop professionally.

He is Co-President of the York Marketing Association and has also been involved with Canada’s Next Top Ad Exec and the Corporate Social Responsibility Society. He’s had internships and part-time jobs with TrojanOne, Google and Starbucks, and last summer interned at the International Centre for Research in Events, Tourism and Hospitality at Leeds Metropolitan University in the UK. Then he spent a semester studying at Université Paris Dauphine in France.

Telly has also had the opportunity to apply his skills and education in a number of case studies, including the 2012 Intercollegiate Business Competition (3rd place), 2011 CORE Corporate Social Responsibility Case Competition (1st place) and 2011 RISE Case Competition (1st place).

What are your career goals?

I’m super excited to start my career at PepsiCo as an assistant brand manager in the fall. My goal is to become a well-rounded marketing professional and I am always open to new experiences (conferences, competitions, etc.) that help me develop professionally.

Why are you egg-cited to be a TalentEgg Awards judge?

Over the last few years, I’ve had the chance to participate in the recruitment and selection activities of dozens of companies, many of which have had events on campus as well. I look forward to recognizing great recruitment initiatives and providing feedback on my experiences that will help companies recruit the best and brightest.

What are you hoping to gain from being on the panel?

Getting insight into the minds of recruiters and the new strategies they are using should prove interesting. Overall it sounds like a fun process and I hope to meet like-minded students through it as well!

Leila Chan Currie

Leila Chan Currie

Leila describes herself as a curious, creative and driven student who is learning how to use technology to change the world.

In 2012, she made a website for U of T students called Coursewiz, tutored inner-city high school students who were in danger of dropping out, and was a Software Engineering Intern at Google in Mountain View, California, working in Mobile Search as part of the Freshman Engineering Practicum.

With a 4.0 GPA, she’s on the Dean’s List and has won more than half a dozen academic awards, including the Bank of Montreal National Scholarship, Academic All-Canadian, and the University of Toronto Scholar’s Award. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, she is also a Varsity Women’s Hockey player.

What are your career goals?

My goal is to find a career where I can solve real problems on a regular basis, and where my passion for excellence, innovation, and helping people can shine through.

It’s the best way to see how top companies are approaching campus recruitment!

What are you hoping to gain from being on the panel?

I hope that, by being on the panel, I’ll learn more about what companies look for in students and new grads, and their strategies to find and recruit them.
