Conference recap: How To Start A Successful Internship Program by Just-Eat.ca’s Antonio da Luz and Jane Mai

With a labour shortage looming and the competition for top talent already fierce, one trend we’re seeing more and more of is employers using internship and co-op programs as feeders for entry level roles.

Students seem to like it too – it acts like an extended interview process for both the student and the employer.

It’s also how Just-Eat.ca, Canada’s largest and fastest-growing online restaurant/food order service, hired five of its full-time entry level employees this year.

Just-Eat’s Antonio da Luz and Jane Mai explained how they used TalentEgg to hire nine interns, exposed them to all areas of the business including Sales, Marketing, Operations and Finance, and launched 11 significant intern-driven projects.

Conference recap: Building A New Employer Brand From Scratch by Target’s Isabelle Morin

Imagine if, among all the other challenges you face as a campus recruiter, you also had to launch a brand new employer brand in Canada.

Well, that’s exactly what Isabelle Morin and her team have been up against as Target prepares to open dozens of stores across the country in early 2013.

At the 2012 Campus Recruitment Excellence Awards and Conference on May 14, Isabelle, Group Manager – Campus Recruiting at Target Canada, spoke about how she and her colleagues have approached this unique challenge in order to build Target’s employer brand from scratch and hire new grads for store leadership roles (Executive Team Leaders).

2012 Campus Recruitment Excellence Awards best practices

On May 14, TalentEgg presented its first annual Campus Recruitment Excellence Awards. Dozens of Canadian employers submitted applications for these awards starting in December, more than 200 students and recent graduates from across Canada voted and provided feedback on those applications in March, and the Top 3 finalists were announced on April 12.

As many of the judges spent hours writing thoughtful, detailed comments on each employer application, there was a ton of information to collect, curate and share with employers and career services professionals at the conference along with the winners.
