It's all about Feedback: Nice comments we've received about TalentEgg

Back-to-school has brought many changes to TalentEgg. For one, we completely re-launched the site on September 1, and with that introduced many new features.

We also introduced new employers with great student jobs and entry level opportunities – Shell, KPMG, Meridian, Talisman Energy, Cineplex, Axe … just to name a few.

In response to all these eggciting developments, we’ve received some fantastic feedback. Here are a few of the most recent:

“It has the same parts any university career centre might have, but what sets it apart is that TalentEgg incorporates all of these tools in a comprehensive, user-friendly way… and with all the spirit of our generation.”

“The content on TalentEgg not only gave me some helpful tips, but the community atmosphere served to remind me that my experiences are not so uncommon. TalentEgg is more than a job posting board; it is a valuable resource as well as a community.”

I’ll level with you – TalentEgg is my baby. And when we receive comments like these… well, needless to say, it makes my day.

Onwards!

Major milestones at TalentEgg

You may have noticed a slowdown in updates here on the blog over the past few months. Well, it’s definitely not because we have nothing to write about – we’re just so busy doing so many things we hardly have time to sit down and write about them.

From Class to Career

TalentEgg now has its own column on GlobeCampus, The Globe and Mail’s site dedicated to undergraduate education in Canada. We usually post a new article once a week written either by Lauren, myself or one of our star contributors from the Incubator. We’ve even been featured on the globeandmail.com homepage every single week! Click here to check out From Class to Career.

The Hatch, a resource for campus recruiters by TalentEgg

In June we also launched The Hatch, which is an online resource on the “campus recruiting” industry for employers who recruit and hire students and recent grads. We update with new content three times each week, featuring industry news, trends and feedback from students and recent grads themselves.

Coming soon: Career resources for students and recent grads in BOOK form

We’re working on a downloadable e-book which will contain many of the ideas found on the Incubator, but organized in a more manageable book format. It’s still in the planning stages, but we’re aiming to publish it online in September and hopefully in hard copy format by next spring! What do you want to see in the book?

Helping sort out self-help

We were recently approached to review a book on the Incubator and it arrived in the mail today, so within the next few weeks you should see that review, hopefully the first of many, online. We know there are a ton of “How to get a job” books out there, so we want to help students and recent grads figure out which ones apply to them.

That’s just some of the exciting news and progress we’ve made over the past month or two. Stay tuned for even more amazing things from TalentEgg!

TalentEgg Summer Party

Thanks to everyone who came out to the TalentEgg Summer Party at the Madison last night! I think we all had a lot of fun (maybe a little too much fun)!

Special thanks to the Incubator contributors who came out last night, Danielle Lorenz, Courtney John-Reader and Nicole Wray, and also our resident Twitter-er Ryan McColeman.

It was great to meet with and talk to some of the people who have been supporting TalentEgg since the beginning, as well as the people who volunteer their time to help us produce content for and engage students and new grads who are looking for meaningful careers. You guys make it all possible and we appreciate your support, your time and your efforts so much!

That being said, here’s a VERY small sampling of photos from the party:

TalentEgg's 1st summer party, and why we're proud to be geeks

Actually, this is the first party we’ve ever officially had at TalentEgg. We never had a launch party, and we didn’t even really celebrate our 1 year anniversary.

You see, we’re all a little bit geeky at TalentEgg. Case in point: As I said, tonight is our summer party, and I’m wearing a shirt that says “I LOVE MATH”.

All wardrobe related jokes aside, it often comes up at TalentEgg that we’re all a little bit nerdy.

Cassandra plays the Sims, Daniel plays World of Warcraft, Ryan and I email each other with business ideas all the time (aka on weekends at 7 in the morning), and Mike & Peter are geeks too, but they’re too new for me to make fun of them this publicly.

And we’re proud to be geeks, and we’re proud of the product we’ve produced through our combined geekiness. Getting your first real job after university requires a serious approach, and a genuine approach.

That’s why everything at TalentEgg is written by a real person (no auto emails or auto updates on our homepage), and why all of our resources in The Incubator are written in the first person.

It’s also why we attract an engaged audience. Students come to TalentEgg when they’re serious about researching and applying for career-starting opportunities. We see it in our stats, and we see it from the reaction of our employer clients.

So I guess what I’m trying to say is that at TalentEgg, it’s cool to be geeky. (that joke was geeky in itself)
