Announcing the Winners of TalentEgg’s 2017 Campus Recruitment Excellence Awards

Since 2012, we here at TalentEgg have hosted the annual Campus Recruitment Excellence Awards and Conference and each year we are continually amazed by the insights of our noted panelists, the energy of our participants, and the all around quality of the content being shared!

For those of you that came out to the Design Exchange May 18th, we’re sure you’ll agree that this year was certainly no eggs-ception! In fact, it may just be our best yet (if we do say so ourselves).

Every spring, we gather professionals from across Canada to recognize and honour the many strengths these top employers possess when it comes to recruitment practices and building authentic, meaningful relationships with students and grads. With a dozen awards being given out this year, there is clearly much to celebrate!

Adding to our established categories such as “Best Campus Career Website” and “Best Internship/Co-op Program,” we were especially excited to introduce two new categories to the awards portion of the day, including our “Best Campus Ambassador Program,” which recognizes exceptional employers whose ambassador programs are facilitating key dialogues between students and employers, and our “Special Award for Social Responsibility in Recruiting,” which honors our most socially conscious organizations, whose hiring practices are committed to incorporating policies of inclusion, sustainability, community outreach, accessibility, diversity and more.

In addition to these exciting new introductions to our awards line-up, we were also honoured to welcome the esteemed Brian Fetherstonhaugh, whose keynote address, “How to Become a Magnetic Talent Enterprise” included some truly compelling insights and observations.

After an exceptional kick-off, our conference continued with some key industry insights and spirited discussions into how employers may best connect with today’s students and recent grads. We’d like to extend a huge thank you to those who participated, and our congratulations to this year’s award nominees. You’re all winners to us!

Brian Fetherstonhaugh is a Marketing and recruitment expert and leads a global workforce of 5800 people. The median age at OgilvyOne Worldwide is 29 years old, so he knows a thing or two about hiring and managing young talent. Brian calls his recruitment theory the “Power of Magnetism.”

Also, Brian’s passion about inspiring and leading young professionals is reflected in his award winning book, The Long View: Career Strategies to Start Strong, Reach High, and Go Far. which includes insights and advice for developing their career in an increasingly competitive and digital age. How To Build A Better Talent Community In 3 Easy Steps

If a potential candidate doesn’t get the gig, or a co-op placement comes to a close, this often signals the end of that person’s relationship with the company – but it doesn’t have to be this way!

In fact according to our 2016 TalentEgg Student Judging Panel Survey, many students and grads want to stay connected with an employer for a variety of reasons, including mentorship and future job opportunities. Of course, it would be nearly impossible to keep in touch with every intern or applicant that crosses your path, but there is an easy fix: creating a talent community.

What is a talent community? According to The Undercover Recruiter, it is “a group of candidates that a company is focused on building a relationship with.” Often created using social media, these communities focus on creating a “two-way dialogue” between the company and its talent pool.

And the benefits are numerous; not only does it allow you easy access to qualified candidates, it’s also an incredible learning opportunity for applicants. While many big companies have been doing this for awhile, organizations of all sizes can reap the rewards of a thriving talent community.
