The Future of Work Trends for Career Educators

As technology continues to advance and the world of work changes, it’s important for career educators to stay up to date on the latest trends and developments. Here are a few key trends that are shaping the future of work and will impact the way career educators approach their job.

1. The rise of automation and artificial intelligence

Automation and AI are transforming many industries, and this trend is only set to continue in the future. As machines become more intelligent and capable, it’s likely that many jobs will be replaced by technology. This means that career educators will need to help students develop the skills that are most in demand, such as problem solving, critical thinking, and creativity.

2. The gig economy

The gig economy, which is made up of short-term, flexible work arrangements, is growing rapidly. This trend is being driven by a number of factors, including the rise of the internet and the increasing popularity of platforms like Uber and Airbnb. Career educators will need to help students understand how to succeed in the gig economy, and how to build a career that is flexible and adaptable.

3. The need for lifelong learning

In the future of work, it’s likely that many workers will need to update their skills throughout their careers. This means that career educators will need to help students understand the importance of lifelong learning and provide them with the tools and resources they need to continue learning and growing.

4. The growing importance of sustainability

As awareness of environmental issues continues to increase, there is a growing demand for workers who have knowledge and expertise in sustainability. This trend is likely to impact a wide range of industries, from renewable energy to sustainable agriculture. Career educators will need to help students understand the importance of sustainability and the role it will play in the future of work.

5. Soft Skills

In addition to these trends, career educators also need to be aware of the growing importance of soft skills, such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication. As technology continues to advance, many of the jobs that used to require specific technical skills are now being automated, making soft skills even more important for workers who want to stay competitive in the job market.

In order to keep up with the changing future of work, career educators need to constantly update their knowledge and stay abreast of the latest trends. One great resource for career educators is our TalentEgg’s eLearning Academy. Meet Our New Director of Partnerships and Operations: Rachel Evans

We are delighted to welcome Rachel Evans to the TalentEgg team. As the Director of Partnerships and Operations, she brings a wealth of experience in talent acquisition, recruitment marketing and employer branding. We interviewed Rachel to learn more about her experience and how it can support emRachel Evans At TalentEggployers and career educators.

Q: Why did you decide to join TalentEgg?

What attracted me most was the critical role TalentEgg plays in connecting tomorrow’s workforce with great employers and the support TalentEgg offers employers to extend brand awareness, reach, and connection with students and those early in their careers.

I was also a previous client of TalentEgg, working as a recruitment marketing advisor with Shell Canada, where I led talent attraction for students and new graduates nationwide. My experience with the TalentEgg team was exceptional, and the company’s growth has been impressive. While TalentEgg started many years ago as a job board with digital advertising, the company has grown to offer comprehensive employer branding and talent attraction services, enabling employees to use TalentEgg as an extension of their campus recruitment teams.

Q: Can you tell us more about your background in employer branding, recruitment marketing and talent acquisition?

As mentioned, I led recruitment marketing for Shell Canada, and I have had the opportunity to participate in employer branding and talent acquisition throughout my career as a marketing professional. I recently came from the talent acquisition industry, where I led marketing and communications for a technology company that enabled talent pools. In that role, I was a speaker on employer branding best practices. I consider recruitment marketing no different than traditional B2C marketing, with the product being the career within the organization and the consumer being the student/new graduate. Applying tried and tested marketing principles to talent attraction is quantifiably better than not adopting these best practices.

Q: Why is employer branding important now more than ever?

Employer branding is essential as businesses recover from the pandemic. Many employers stopped or scaled down their employer brand and talent attraction spend, which has resulted in reduced brand awareness among students and new graduates. With Boomers leaving the workforce in unprecedented numbers, organizations have a significant gap to fill. In a hyper-competitive talent attraction landscape, the only way to differentiate your organization is with a strong employer brand and presence in the market, intersecting young people with where they are physically and digitally.

Q: What are your plans to support TalentEgg’s partners?

I am excited to support employers with their talent attraction strategies and employer brand to help connect them with great students and new graduates. I see a significant opportunity to partner collaboratively to extend existing services, including co-marketing and branding initiatives during campus events that show institutions are committed to connecting their students and new grads with employment opportunities.

TalentEgg also has a suite of e-learning courses that may be of interest to all of our partners. These professionally produced courses teach soft skills needed in the workplace that are often lacking in young people. These courses are incredibly cost-effective and could be an excellent addition to the services already offered by post-secondary institutions and employers struggling to close this gap within their workplace.

Q: How can TalentEgg’s partners (employers, career centers, career educators) get in touch with you?

Presenting The Winners Of The 2019 TalentEgg National Campus Recruitment Excellence Awards

2019 marks the eighth edition of our annual TalentEgg National Campus Recruitment Excellence Awards and Conference, and we must say that this was our best one yet!

On June 19th, campus recruitment professionals from across Canada gathered at the Globe and Mail Centre in Toronto to celebrate the best in the industry. Attendees got the chance to hear exclusive insights on campus recruitment and learn about cutting-edge strategies for connecting with today’s tech-savvy students and new grads.

Among our lineup of expert panelists and speakers was author, speaker, and behaviour-change specialist Gregg Brown. His keynote speech, “Ready…Set…Change AGAIN, Building Change Resilience in HR” was a fabulous way to inspire attendees to change their mindset in the workplace, and set themselves and their recruits up for success.

We were also so pleased to announce the launch of our two new products: TE University, our brand new eLearning platform and TalenEgg Candidate Video Showcase – coming Fall 2019.

“This was our first year attending the TalentEgg conference and it was awesome – it was so great to connect with many industry professionals and learn a lot more about campus recruitment and what other organizations and companies are doing to really attract students to their organizations. We’re getting really excited about campus season and prepping for the fall of 2019 so we look forward to seeing all of the students and new grads and co-ops out on campus in the fall.”

2. Gather your materials

Each awards submission is composed of two parts. The first is the mandatory online application. We ask all applicants to fill out a short form and provide a brief overview of the initiative being submitted for review.

Note: The Campus Recruiter of the Year and Career Coach of the Year (Individual) awards application are slightly different. For these awards, we ask for a short description of the nominee’s achievements.

The second component is the supporting documentation. We request all documentation to be presented in PDF format and attached with the application form. For this part, you can embed links to online presentations, websites, or other types of media to support the application and demonstrate the impact of your efforts.

Over the years, we’ve noticed that our judging panel tend to favour applicants who are able to support their achievements with solid evidence. Speaking of which…

3. Know your audience

Your work will be judged by an eggs-clusive panel of top students. In other words, your target audience for your campus recruitment initiatives. Therefore, to help ensure your application is well-received, you need to tailor it for a younger demographic.

Here’s what we recommend:

      • Use terminology that everyone can understand. Avoid industry jargon words and phrases.
      • Communicate in a Gen Z and Y-friendly voice. Aim for casual and conversational, but still professional.
      • Speak directly to the wants and needs of students. Check out our Guide to Campus Recruitment to get key insights from students & grads.

4. Show your work

So you think your organization had the best recruiting program of the year? Great – we want proof! Including quantitative data like statistics or percentages can help strengthen your claims and create a comprehensive application.

Another factor all winning applications have in common? Visual appeal. To stand out to the judging panel, try:

      • Using a style and branding that is similar to your other campus recruitment material.
      • Incorporating visual evidence, such as screenshots, logos, videos, etc., to illustrate your application.
      • Including pictures of your student/new grad employees and/or campus recruiters to help the judges better connect with your organization.

5. Keep it concise

With so many submissions to evaluate, most of the judges will likely only spend a short time evaluating each application. A text-heavy application will not appeal to a Gen Z and Y audience. The key is to provide as much detail as possible, but also keep it concise.

To do this, include only the most relevant and impressive information and use bulleted lists or graphs to convey your points wherever possible. Also remember that you can provide links to any social networking accounts, online media, and additional information you want to include.

6. Be creative

Don’t be afraid to flex those creative muscles when crafting your application! The goal is to create a submission that stands out from the competition in a memorable way and the best way to do that is to be innovative.

Think outside the box by leveraging new technology as much as possible. For example, you could create a video or a slide deck for your application instead of a traditional text document. You could also use infographics to represent your data in a modern and visually appealing way.

Just make sure that the end result is accessible and easy-to-navigate. It doesn’t matter how flashy your application is – if the judges can’t understand it, they can’t engage with it.

Follow these tips and you’ll be well on your way to creating a top-notch #TEAwards application. Good luck!
